The Grow in Project

Background to The Grow in Project

In 2003, representatives of the nine churches in Falmouth agreed that fresh ministries to children using new methods were becoming increasingly necessary.

A Kidz Klub was started at Falmouth Primary School in the heart of the most deprived area of Falmouth, run by a team comprising members of a number of different local churches. Ever since, an average of 50 children each Tuesday have come along, and each child is also visited at home in preparation for the following week.

In 2006, a second Kidz Klub was started for pupils on the other side of town. Gradually, other initiatives for the 7–11 age groups (such as holiday clubs) have been developing. The churches are more consciously directing their outreach to include younger age groups.

The Grow in Project begins

In 2006, Falmouth Churches Together strengthened their shared commitment to children and committed to seek a full-time, trained ecumenical worker. Their role would be to assist children, adults and churches, singly and together, to grow in faith, love, adventurous living… The overall commitment was named The Grow in Project.

The Grow in Project is funded by Christian organisations and trusts across several denominations, with a salary for the appointed worker secured for three years. A quarter of this money will come from the Church Urban Fund and the Church and Community Fund, enabling particular attention to be given to the children in the most deprived areas of Falmouth.

A charity is formed

Falmouth Churches Together has established a Grow In Trust to manage The Grow in Project. The Trust comprises two joint chairpersons, six trustees and two consultants for relationships within and beyond Falmouth.
